| The design challenge for the K.C.
Irving Chemistry Centre was to develop a laboratory-planning module
meeting the continuously changing research requirements in science of
Universities across Canada. The design solution conceptualized the mechanical
systems as a three dimensional grid and imposed this matrix on a modular
layout of lab equipment and furniture. The result was a flexible plan
accommodating an undergraduate teaching lab and a specialized faculty
research lab.
The KC Irving Chemistry Centre houses lecture /
administrative spaces and teaching / research laboratories. Extensive
interior glazing provides for visibility into technical areas, inspiring
student interest in the curriculum and activities within the chemistry
department.
