Over the last 30 years, BGHJ has been committed to designing sustainable and ecological housing. The Ark Project was a UN Habitat’s Canadian Urban Demonstration Project and an experiment in self sufficient housing. Winners of the a US Housing and Urban Development award the Ark Two projects are single family residences that feature advanced passive solar energy designs. The Conserver 1&2 homes were the first houses in North America to be built with 2x6 studs and increased insulation in walls and ceilings. The Advanced House is a highly efficient design which features a ground source heat pump, photovoltaic collectors, and a wind turbine, creating 100% of the energy required to operate the home annually. The Advanced House was a cover story feature in Home Builder Magazine.
